The first consignment (5 cm. Aug. 1975) consisted of texts of speeches given by Sir Richard relating to industrial arbitration (originally held at MS 4990). The second consignment (Feb. 1977) consists of correspondence, more transcripts of speeches and conferences, photographs, subject files: S.E.C. Dispute 1972, Clarry O'Shea, Indonesian Inquiry 1946, visit to New Guinea and Indonesia, 1973, Advertising standards, John Curtin Appeal, Aborigines and Oil Wage Case, 1970. Press cuttings, including 14 folders of cuttings from 1946 to 1972.

Sir Richard Kirby was made a judge in 1947. He was President of the Commonwealth Conciliation and Arbitration Commission and Chief Judge of the Commonwealth Court of Conciliation and Arbitration from 1956 to 1973, when he retired.
